Toys for toths team review

I will start off by saying this is some of the most fun I’ve had on a team in a while. Everyone were super chill guys and we just had fun hanging out with each other to just talk random stuff or play some custom game.

It was also the right level of tryhard for me where it’s not a team that wants to scrim every week but still puts in the effort to actively improve our gameplay. Something that I loved about this team is the willingness to talk about our games and watch replays which none of my previous teams did. I’ve always loved the strategic side of Dota and just being able to hop on a discord call and dissect our game was a lot of fun. We had a very clear idea of how we wanted to play the game although we did not stick to this plan during some of our games; It was still really fun being the 1 in a 4 protect 1 strat. I think our team was pretty strong and we could have def made it far in playoffs, we threw atleast half our games from super winnable positions but that’s dota I guess

Alright without further yada yada I will start off the player reviews and I will try to keep it different from other team reviews where it’s just praising everyone

Captain Ratman

Since Ratman loves Anime so much, the closest Anime character I can see him being is Erwin from Attack on Titan. Always reliable and strong but not seen as easily from the outside of how much he contributes.

Good things:

  • Mechanically very sound as expected of his MMR
  • Extreme PMA, I didn’t even realize Ratman was mad one game until he apologized profusely after the game to everyone; Even when “mad” he doesn’t throw negative remarks, doesn’t hindsight plays and keeps it very chill. Also keeps discord comms lively by making dad jokes
  • Free phoenix bans every day

Can improve things:

  • I’d like to see him focus less on winning the lane for his 3 and just start roaming and creating terror around the map more

Standout game:

Who’s the support now?” -Ratman probably

Spaceman Mooshack

Mooshack was the livewire of our comms, always seeming happy and chatty. He really loves dota and led a couple of the replay reviews and coaching which was all great learning. He had a lot of wonky pocket strats that we never really got to try Sadge

Good things:

  • PMA and vocal about what he wants to do in the game
  • Does a good job of being a selfless/ space creating mid
  • Creates amazing scouting reports for team along with Sambo

Can improve things:

  • Taking control of a game more when you’re having a good game and other’s aren't

Standout game:

Moo “Me carry now” Shack

Archon player Ripley

I think this is my 3rd season with Ripley (and starting a new one soon in masters). He’s the most volatile player on our team easily. Some games he’s popping off absolutely carrying the game and some games he doesn’t do much (usually when he has a bad lane). Character wise, he has been really fun to play with for me.

Good things:

  • Plays above his “Archon” badge. Finds really nice solo kills around the map which creates a ton of space for me
  • PMA dude in general
  • Free Axe ban every game

Can improve things:

  • Sometimes he does have a tendency to farm the same area of map as me which slows down my game. If you can farm aggressively instead of in our jungle defensively, that will be a good improvement to your gameplay

Standout game:

They didn’t respect my Axe” -Ripley

Sandbagged Sambo

I would pick this guy every season if I had the chance. He’s incredibly Chill, listens to comms well and mega skilled at the game in general. He’s probably the most sandbagged in this entire div I’d wager for what we picked him at (Archon 3 or something). He also scouted teams with Mooshack and was very strategic in planning how to slay them

Good things:

  • Plays easily at an Ancient level. I wish I had supports like him in my Solo ranked games except I get ancient trash players. Mechanically he plays my lane pretty fucking well - blocking pulls and getting pulls off and what not
  • Really cool guy to just talk to, never got mad and listens really well. Bonus for also leading some replay reviews himself
  • A rare trait of being quite good at Warding. I think in my stats board, he had the most dewards in a lot of the games and it wasn’t him spamming sentries either.

Can improve things:

  • Something you can work on is being confident in your ideas of the game. Rarely heard you make calls and I know you’re a smart guy when we talk after the game about our mistakes; You just need to voice them as Pos 5 allows people to understand the flow of the game differently from other roles

Standout game:

Oh look I solo killed their carry” — Sambo Chad

Washedup Sharingan

This was one of the hardest and most fun seasons for me for a few reasons.

One was because I’ve never been so pampered in a team as I was this one as the team trusted on my ability to farm fast and carry the game.

Two was playing carry made me realize my keybinds were limiting my power level. Something my team doesn’t know is I changed the way I have been playing Dota all these years around Week 2

old keybinds

I have been using arrow keys to move the camera and my skill and item hotkeys are far apart but I’ve never felt like they hindered my play till now; when I’m playing a BKB carry and I need to press it fast to react to blink stuns. So this change was pretty hard and I had to spend quite a few hours playing bot games to adjust my muscle memory from my usual keybinds.

Besides that, I wasn’t too happy about my play this season. I definitely threw some games from winning positions and while I was able to be one of the statistically fastest farming carries in the div from all the space my team made, I can’t really point out a single game where my team can say they got carried by me. I blame part of that on the keybind change and part of it on being too aggressive and trying to push the limits of the hero too much and feeding; I think what my team needed was me to be more stable and not push the limits as much as I tried to

Well that’s it and shoutout to Ultragunner for being my coach and teaching me a few things about carry
